Working Report 2019/2020

Report on Working activities from Feb2019 – Feb 2020

In May 2019 Kim Cluney our Working Test Sec arranged a range of working tests & full details of the tests & results are on our web site. It was a very enjoyable day & our thanks go to Kim for her hard work in organising the day. Unfortunately Kim decided to retire at the end of the summer season & therefore our thanks go to her for all the hard work she put into the job.

In June the Golden Retriever Inter Club tests were hosted by the Midland GRC & again the day proved very successful & enjoyed by the 12 club teams taking part. Unfortunately Ulster GRC were unable to attend.

There has always been great rivalry between our club & the GRC & it was therefore slightly disappointing that the GRC pipped us to first place by 4 points, with none of the other clubs within range. Its not always that way as there are many very good Goldens throughout the country. Our team were Jane Mann & Margaret Allen with Novice dogs & Marion Hanman & Keith Broomfield with Open dogs.

The Grouse season starts on the 12th August but the main season really gets under way from October & our Novice Breed stake was held on the 25th October at Knowle farm by kind invitation of Jane Mann & her family.

Jane, like her brother Robert, ensures that the day goes smoothly, but above all is enjoyed by everyone; even if the dogs sometimes don’t do as they are told. We ended with a very worthy winner after a tight final walk up which produced some excellent dog work.

1st Craig Gardener Polihale Hor Tikka of Foxcote

2nd Jane Mann Windwithe Brandy of Holway

3rd Frank Skjerping Jacklaine’s Ex Stitch

Our Open stake was again held at Holway by kind invitation of Robert Atkinson & his family. As always the ground at Holway tests the dogs to their limits & we invariably end with a worthy winner. Unfortunately from the Goldens perspective the Labs won through on this occasion but it was no disgrace as the the dog placed 2nd was a multiple winner of awards & 3rd place soon after achieved the status of Field Trial Champion.

1st M Tallamy Lab Brindlebay Brigands

2nd D Field Lab FT CH Artistryn Ulrich

3rd D Latham Lab Fendawood Harold.

I would just like to add my personal thanks to the hosts & all the judges who have given up their time to help make our trials & tests a success and also to Skinners for their Sponsorship/Prizes.

The 2020 report will be in the next review/AGM but as we now have a vacant position of Working Test Sec, we would welcome a volunteer to take over & secure the working tests for the future.
