South Western Golden Retriever Club Open Show

September 29th 2018

Thank you to the hard working committee and my Steward Sue for making this a great day. Thank you Exhibitors for all the wonderful dogs I had the opportunity of judging. I was looking for a balanced Golden Retriever without exaggerations. I was happy to find many beautiful dogs who fitted this brief. I was pleased to see lovely heads and expressions on all my winners. Coats were variable with some of the bitches especially well out of coat. It was good to see the full range of colour in our breed. We were blessed with a gorgeous day of sunshine without being too hot. Goldens are always happiest out of doors. In the end movement was often the deciding factor

1st Chapman Mr BM & Mrs MV KIDSTON WEAVER
‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍Substantial 8 and Half month blonde puppy. He is very balanced for his age presenting a square outline. Good reach of neck and level topline. A well boned young man who needs to tighten up on movement, but moved out well covering the ground. He has a strong head and deep muzzle. BPD and Best Opposite Sex puppy in show
2nd Younger Mrs S MAVISTAN PHAR LAP
‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍7 month dog with more golden colour. Not the bone of the first, but moved well on a good length of stride. Pleasing head and expression.

1st McDonald Miss M LAMANCHA MAGICAL MOMENTS JW
‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍15 month mid-size blonde dog presenting a clean balanced outline. He has a masculine head and expression but is not overdone. Super dark pigment. Good length of neck into well laid back shoulders. Hind quarters are well set under the body, with a moderate bend of stifle. Firm topline, well held when he moved out across the ring.
2nd Bawden MBE Miss CL GOLDSAND ROCK AND ROLL AT DARTHILL
‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍17 month darker good sized boy with a good deep chest and firm topline. Moved out well. Preferred the length of neck and shoulders of the winner.

‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍3 year old handsome dog of good size in full wavy mid golden coat. Masculine head with dark pigment, making a pleasing expression. A well balanced dog who stood out in this class when stacked in the lineup. Movement is sound but could have more drive. Res BD

Great depth of chest without losing length of leg. Nicely angulated hindquarters set well under body. He moved out with drive across the ring soundly. BD, Res BIS, BOS in show
2nd Bawden MBE Miss CL GOLDLEIGH MACLOUD AT DARTHILL JW

5 year-old mature dog presented in good mid gold coat. He is well built a presenting a balanced outline. Today he did not move as straight or positively as the winner.

‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍7 year old dog good sized dog with well-presented golden coat. Lovely head and expression. He appears longer cast than some but this doesn’t distract from his balance. Shows himself well, free standing with wagging tail. Lovely ground covering stride won him this class and BVIS.
2nd Bawden MBE Miss CL SHEARSTONE RENEGADE AT DARTHILL JW
‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍10 year old in great condition and coat. True golden head. Shorter coupled than the winner. Lost out when it came to moving in the ring.

‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍14 month smaller blonde bitch who was not in the best of coats. However she had a lovely feminine head with dark points. She had a very balanced outline and moved soundly and steadily.
2nd Cole Mrs LP ROOKSBURY PHANTASIA
‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍17 months golden bitch. She is not quite as balanced in outline being longer cast. Not as mature as the winner and could carry more weight. Moved out well covering the ground with a long stride.
